Franklin - Services for Fannie Alva Holbrook Rickman, 75, of the Cowee community, who died Thursday, will be held at 2 pm Saturday in Cowee Baptist Church, where she was intermediate girls Sunday school teacher and church flower chairman.

The Revs Lloyd Fish and Clarence Vance will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs Rickman was a native of Macon County and a daughter of the late James R and Pearl Gibson Holbrook. Surviving are her husband, Thomas Rickman; a daughter, Zena Pearl Brogden, and a son, Roy Rickman, both of Franklin; five sisters, Nannie Childers of Whittier, Verna West, of Asheville and Orpha Burrell, Vinnie Davis and Eddis Hall, all of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Vance, Weaver and Paul Holbrook, all of Franklin; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Fannie Rickman Memorial Flower Fund of the Church, in care of Milton Fouts, Route 4, Franklin.

The remains of the late Joe C Gibson, who died March 14, were laid to rest the following day at Snow Hill church. Though there was some misunderstanding as to the hour of the funeral still an immense throng of neighbors and friends from all over the county were present to pay a tribute of deserved respect to the memory of this out-standing former citizen of the county. The little church was crowded to capacity while scores of others were unable to gain entrance. Revs J H Strickland, A S Sosebee, and W L Bradley spoke at the bier and all paid honor to the blameless life of the departed. A Number of friends of the deceased from Franklin, journeyed to Snow Hill to be present at the funeral.

The Citizens Bank of which the late Mr Gibson was a director closed for the day as a mark of respect for the deceased.

The remains were placed in a grave beside that of his wife, who died the latter part of January.

The deceased is survived by four sons, Weaver, Sam, Carroll and Walter; five daughters, Mrs Ida Dalton, Mrs Pearl Holbrooks, Mrs Ilah Bryson, Mrs Mamie Reynolds and Mrs Nobia Murray; two brothers, Tom and Hayes, and six sisters, Mrs Betty Grant, Mrs Eliza DeHart, Mrs Maggie Collier, Mrs Palistine Leatherman, Mrs Fannie Dillard, Mrs Nancy Collier. The deceased had thirty five grand children and six great grand children.

Mrs Mary Alva Gibson, 70, died at her home on Cowee January 28. She was married fifty years ago to Joe C Gibson. The deceased was a devout member of the Snow Hill Methodist church, having united with the church when a girl. Mrs Gibson was well and favorably known throughout the county and was devotedly loved by a host of friends in Western North Carolina.

The remains were interred at Snow Hill cemetery, Rev J H Strickland and Rev Mr Bradley conducting ther funeral services.

Besides her husband the deceased is survived by the following named children: Mrs Frank I Murray, Franklin, Walter Gibson, Mrs Ada Dalton, Mrs Pearl Holbrooks, Weaver Gibson, Sam Gibson, Mrs Robert Bryson, Carroll Gibson and Mrs Mamie Reynolds, all of Iotla.

Franklin - Theodore Jarvis Holbrook, 78, of the Cowee community died Friday in a Winston-Salem hospital after a long illness.

Born in Macon County, he was a retired auto mechanic and a son of the late James Robert and Mattie Pearl Gibson Holbrook. He was the husband of Thelma Van Derburgh Holbrook who died in 1978.

Surviving are six sisters, Mrs Tom Rickman of Franklin, Mrs Candler Childers of Whittier, Mrs Harry West of Asheville, Mrs Herbert Hall, Mrs Hugh Burrell, and Mrs John Davis of Winston-Salem; and three brothers, Vance, Weaver and Paul Holbrook of Franklin.

Services will be held at 2 pm Sunday in the Cowee Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs Lloyd Fish and J W Myers will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Candler - Nina Dalton Holbrook, 94, of 177 Holbrook Road, died Tuesday, June 6 1995, in a local solace center.

A native of Macon County, she was a daughter of the late John H and Ada Emily Gibson Dalton and wife of the the late Frank A Holbrook, who died in 1974. She was also proceeded in death by her son, James Holbrook, grandchildred, Jospeh Long and Mary Holbrook. She had been a resident of Buncombe County since 1917 and the oldest member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church joining 76 years ago.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Bill Long of Candler; son and daughter-in-law, John F and Judy Holbrook of Candler; daughter-in-law, Hettie Holbrook of Candler, sisters, Alva Shelton of Asheville, Helen Morgan of Franklin; brother, Lyman Dalton of Greenville, SC; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home with the Rev Norman Hubbard officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends an hour before the service Thursday.

Mrs Mattie Pearl Gibson Holbrook, of the Cowee Community, died last Thursday in a local hospital. She was 86 years of age.

The daughter of the late Joseph and Alva Allen Gibson, she married James R Holbrook December 20, 1903.

Funeral services were held at the Cowee Baptist Church, of which she was a member, last Saturday with Rev J W Myers, pastor, and Rev Clyde Collins conducting the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Earnest Childers, Roy Rickman, Bobby West, Wayne Davis, David Burrell, and Bruce Holbrook.

Mrs Holbrook is survived by four sons, Theodore Holbrook, Vance Holbrook, Weaver Holbrook, and Paul Holbrook, all of Franklin; six daughters, Mrs Tom Rickman, of Franklin, Route 4; Mrs Candler Childers, of Whittier; Mrs Harry West, of Asheville; Mrs Herbert Hall, Mrs Hugh Burrell, and Mrs John B Davis, all of Winston-Salem, one brother Carroll Gibson, of Route 4, Franklin, and one sister, Mrs Frank Murry, of Franklin.

Neat-Potts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

J R HOLBROOK, AGED 73, DIES AT WEST'S MILL

Rites for Macon Native Conducted at Cowee Church Thursday.

James Robert Holbrook, a native of Macon County and resident of the West's Mill Community, died Wednesday of last week in a Franklin hospital, after a long illness. He was 73 years old.

Funeral services were conducted the following afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Cowee Baptist church by the Rev George A Cloer, the Rev Norman E Holden, and the Rev Joe Bishop. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr Holbrooks was the son of Alex and Mrs Elizabeth Higdon Holbrook. He was a farmer and a member of the Liberty Baptist church. In 1903 he was married to Miss Mattie Pearl Gibson.

Survivors include his widow; four sons, Theodore Holbrook of Washington, DC, Vance Holbrook, of Waynesville, and Weaver and Paul Holbrook of Franklin; six daughters, Mrs Candler Childers, of Whittier, Mrs Thomas M Rickman, of Franklin, Route 4, Mrs Harry West, of Asheville and Miss Eddie Holbrook, Mrs Hugh Burrell, and Mrs John Davis, all of Winston-Salem; three brothers, William Holbrook, of Franklin, Route 4, and Larkin and Frank Holbrook of Asheville; two sisters, Mrs Frank Duckett of Asheville, and Mrs Mae Hendren of Hiddenite; and 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were the following nephews: Norton Holbrook, Joe Dalton, John Gibson, Murray, John Holbrook, George Gibson, Dan Reynolds, Coe Holbrook, and Sam Gibson, Jr.

Arrangements were under the direction of Potts Funeral home.

Mrs Holbrooks, 94, Passes At Otto.

Mrs Sarah Ann Moore Holbrooks, 94, died at her home at Otto on Wednesday, December 24, after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 26, at 10:30 o'clock, at the Coweta Baptist church. The Rev James I Vinson officiated, assisted by the Rev George A Cloer. Interment was in the Holly Springs church cemetery.

A native of Macon county, Mrs Holbrooks was born January 6, 1847, the daughter of Parker and Hulda Kilpatrick Moore. On December 23, 1867, she was married to Larkin C Holbrooks, who died a number of years ago.

The active pallbearers were: William Keener, Alex Holbrooks, Jess Oliver, Charles Jolly, Elmer Oliver and Elmer Roten.

Surviving are one son: William F Holbrooks, of Otto; eight daughters, Mrs J G Jolly, of Shelby, Ohio; Mrs C F Oliver, of Winston-Salem; Mrs E H Keener, Mrs H J Bates, the Misses Ida, Belle, Maggie, and Elizabeth Holbrooks, all of Otto; 29 grandchildren, and 43 great-children.

Mrs Nobia Murray

Mrs Nobia Gibson Murray, 73, of 184 Maple street, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning at her home.

She was a retired librarian for the Franklin Public Library, with 35 years of service. She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary, past worthy matron of the Nequassa chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as secretary for this order for 30 years. Mrs Murray was a volunteer worker at the Grandview Rest Home, Demonstration Club and an avid flower grower, of which she shared with neighbors and many friends. Her husband, Frank I Murray, Sr, died in 1962.

Surviving are two sons, John G (Speck) of Franklin and Frank I Murray, Jr. of Asheville, a brother, Carroll Gibson, of Franklin, Route 4; a daughter-in-law, the widow of the late Fred J Murray, of Sanford, Fl, and seven grandchildren.

Services will be held today (Thursday) at 11 am in the First Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Dr W Thomas Lane, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sam, Joe and George Gibson, Lon Dalton, Dan R Reynolds and Weaver Holbrooks. Honorary pallbeaers will be members of the Nequassa chapter of the OES.

The family received friends from 7 to 9 pm Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home, where the body remained until 30 minutes prior to the services.

Carroll Allen Gibson, 70, well known Macon County figure in amateur gem circles, community leader and political leader, died Sunday in Angel Community Hospital.

Mr Gibson, a native and lifelong resident of the Cowee valley in Macon County was the owner and operator of Gibson's Ruby mine, the first of many such mines in the valley. He was active in the Democrat party in his township and served in many township offices including register and precinct chairman.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Snow Hill Methodist Church with Rev C C Welch, Rev Clyde Collins and Rev Lee Dunlap conducting the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dan R Reynolds, George Gibson, Weaver Holbrooks, John G Murray, Lon Dalton, and Frank Gibson.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs Ruby Cloer Gibson; two sons, Joe Gibson of Franklin, and Jerry Gibson, of Franklin, Route four.

Frances R Bryson, 97, of Cowee Creek Road, Franklin, died Friday, Oct 31, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of the late Roland R and Arba Zena Leatherman Rickman. She was married to the late Carr Bryson. She was a homemaker and a member of Cowee Baptist Church where she was a former choir member, a beginner's Sunday school teacher for 55 years, was active in WMU, Discipleship Training and G A's. She was a former member of Cowee Home Demonstration Club and she taught and demonstrated tatting.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Womack and husband, Raymond, and Sue Willis and husband, Garland, all of Franklin; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Potts; a son-in-law, Roy Potts, four sisters and six brothers.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov 2, at Cowee Baptist Church, with Rev Shawn Edwards, Rev Lloyd Fish, and Rev Charles Stevens officiating. Burial was at the Church Cemetery. Grandsons James Womack, Charles Womack, Mike Willis, Christopher Willis, Dennis Potts, Chuck Rantala, Ken White and Shonn Peek served as pallbearers.

Also surviving are three grandaughters, Peggy Potts Rantala, Evelyn Womack White, and Kathy Womack Peek.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Cowee Baptist Church, 6301 Bryson City Road, Franklin, NC 28734. Bryant Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sam E Grant, 71, a former resident of Macon county, died at his home in Greenville, SC, last week following an extended illness.

Mr Grant, although born in Tennessee, came to Macon county with his parents, William and Betsy Jane Gibson Grant when a small boy, and made his home here for a number of years. He was a farmer and produce dealer.

Miss Sara Elizabeth Holbrook, 99 year old Macon County native, died at her home last Friday.

Born May 9, 1872 the daughter of the late Larkin and Sara Moore Holbrook, she lived in Macon County her entire life.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Coweeta Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with Rev Earl Dendy and Dr W Thomas Lane conducting the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ed Wallace, Leonard Myers, Elmer Roten, Gilmer Henson, Grady Nicholson and Robert Stewart.

The deceased is survived by two sisters, Mrs Jane H Oliver of Winston-Salem and Miss Maggie Holbrook, of the home.

Larkin Canada Holbrooks, born June 19, 1848, died August 9, 1928; age 80 years, 1 month and 26 days.

He was united with the Brush Creek church in 1866 and later moved his membership to the Coweta Baptist church where he has been a faithful member.

He was united in marriage to Sarah Ann Moore December 23, 1866. To this union were born 10 children, 9 of whom are living. He has 29 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

CARROLL GIBSON VICTIM OF SPOTTED FEVER

William Carroll Gibson, 10 year old son of Mr and Mrs J D Gibson, died at the home of his parents on the Murphy road, on August 5th at 2:30 am. He had been ill for two weeks with spotted or Rocky Mountain fever, which is caused by the bite of a tick. This is only the third case of this disease reported in this county and first death. The sympathy of many friends goes out to the bereaved parents.

Funeral services were conducted at Carson's Chapel at 4 pm, Wednesday afternoon, and interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were John Gibson, Homer Green, Lon Campbell, Ernest Wallace, George Bruce, Homer Green, Jr. Potts Bros were in charge of the funeral.

Surviving are the parents, two sisters, Audrey and Mavis; and one brother, Dan; grandparents, Mr and Mrs J Gibson and Mrs Sam Green.

Samuel Herbert Gibson, 46, of Iotla, died at Oteen hospital, February 10 at 6 o'clock. He had been ill for the past four or five weeks and was on his way to the government hospital in Washington, DC.

Mr Gibson was the son of the late Joseph Gibson and Alva Allen Gibson of the Cowee community. He was a member of the Iotla Baptist chirch. He served in France during World War No. 1. On September 6, 1919, he was married to Miss Fannie Liner.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 o'clock at the Iotla Baptist church. The Rev G W Davis, pastor, will have charge of the services, with Rev N E Holden and Rev C F Rogers assisting.

Pallbearers will be nephews: Dan R Reynolds, Carl Dalton, Carroll Reynolds, Lon Dalton, John Gibson Murray and Vance Holbrooks.

The flower girls will be nieces.

Surviving are the widow; one son, Sam, Jr, one daughter, Helen; one grandchild, Bobby Gibson; three brothers, Walter Gibson, of Spruce Pine; Weaver and Carroll of Cowee; four sisters, Mrs John H Dalton, Mrs Jim R Holbrooks, Mrs Robert Bryson, Mrs Jess Reynolds and Mrs Frank I Murray.

Sarah Edna Waldroop, daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Waldroop, was born December 1916, died February 27, 1928, age eleven years, two months and two days.

She professed faith in Chris at the age of 9 and joined the Methodist Episcopal church, South, at Carson's Chapel and was always a faithful member of both church and Sunday school.

The deceased had been ill for several weeks with cold which developed into pneumonia and resulted in her death. She was patient and showed her implicit faith in Christ during her illness. She told her family that she was ready to go, and was going to Jesus, that she could not stay with them, and on the 29th of February she peacably passed to her reward.

Peace be to her ashes and comfort to her love one.

In Memory of Little Otis Eugene Gibson

On January 22, 1929 God called from the home of Mr and Mrs Robert Gibson, their dear little boy, Otis Eugene. Born February 14, 1925, age three years, eleven months and eight days. He had only been sick little over a week with flu.

He was a dear little boy. Always met you with a smile. It was hard to give hime up, but God wanted him in heaven to brighten His throne.

The funeral services were held at the Snow Hill Methodist church January 23 at three o'clock, and was conducted by Rev W L Bradley.

He leaves a father, mother, four brothers, and one sister besides a number of relatives and friends.

J E Rickman Dies of Stroke

Leading Citizen of Macon Leads Active and Useful Life

John Edwin Rickman, 76, one of this county's most prominent citizens, died suddenly of a stroke last Friday morning at 2 o'clock at his home on Lyle street. Although his health had not been good for the past year, his death was unexpected.

A large number of friends from all over the county attended the funeral, which was held at Cowee Baptist church, where burial was in the church cemetery. Rev W L Bradley, Rev Norman E Holden, and Rev Paul Shephers officiated.

The active pall bearers were his grandsons, Roger Guffey, George Guffey, Frank Guffey, Coleman Rickman, C L Buchanan and Thomas E Buchanan.

The services at the grave were in charge of the Masons, and the Eastern Star had charge of the flowers.

The honorary pallbearers were: Dr J H Fouts, Dr H T Horsley, Dr F T Smith, John M Moore, Alex Moore, George Dean, S J Womack, C T Blaine, C L Waldroop, A J West, Wade Cunningham, Herman Childers, R W Welch, J B Pendergrass, J H Stockton, J E Wyman, Mayor J O Harrison and Alderman H W Cabe, Ben McCullom, Fred Cabe, Paul Potts and T W Angel, Jr.

Mr Rickman was born in the West's Mill section of the county, the son of the late Rev Phillip Riley Rickman and Arvella Shepherd Rickman. His grandfather, Rev Merritt Rickman, was a missionary with all the territory west of Asheville for his field. In early life, Mr Rickman joined the Liberty Baptist church, where he served as deacon and superintendent until he moved to Franklin. He served as moderator of the Macon county Baptist association for many years. After coming to Franklin he was an active member and generous contributor to the Franklin church, serving continuously as deacon and teacher of the men's Bible class, and as clerk and treasurer at different times.

Mr Rickman was a farmer and also, as a young man, an engineer, owner and operator of mica mines, working in connection with the state and federal government mining bureaus and being closely affiliated with mica interests in Asheville.

For a time he was associated with a representative of Tiffany in New York, mining rubies, which were found especially in connection with corundum veins and beds.

His services to the public included being on the draft board of World War I and as land assessor in 1922, on the Franklin town board and as postmaster at Franklin from 1930 to 1934. He was a prominent Republican and ran for office on his party's ticket several times.

He was twice married, the first time to Miss Sallie Saunders of the Watauga community of Macon county on February 11, 1887. Three children survive from that union: Mrs Jessie Guffey of Leatherman; Mrs Lyndon Cabe of Green's Creek; and Mrs Verlin Buchanan of Gay.

Following his first wife's death he married Miss Mary Jane Potts, of the West Mill community, to which union four children were born, three living, as follows: Mrs Roy Gibson, of Franklin, H Sloan Rickman of Franklin and New River, and James E Rickman, now in foreign-service in the US Navy.

Twenty-five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive as well as four brothers, the Rev M L Rickman, of Port Angeles, WA, the Rev C C Rickman of San Francisco, and the Rev W R Rickman.

Mrs Arbazena Leatherman Rickman, 66, died at her home in the Cowee section Sunday at 6 pm, following an illness of eight months.

Funeral services were held Monday at 3 pm at the Cowee Baptist church with the Rev J G Benfield, pastor, assisted by the Rev R F Mayberry, Rhodiss, and the Rev M E Holden, West Mills, both former pastors, officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs Rickman, daughter of the late Z M Leatherman and Palestine Gibson, was born January 15, 1877, in Macon county. She was the widow of Roland R Rickman. She was a member of the Cowee Baptist church.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs W T Fouts, Franklin, RFD No 3; Mrs J C Winstead, Elm City and Mrs J C Bryson, West Mills; four (sic) sons, Joe H, West Mills, Earl, Brevard, and Carr, Canton, Ohio; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Will Ammons, Sylva, and Mrs Alex Ammons, Ellijay; two brothers, Dock Leatherman, Leatherman, and Solomon Leatherman, West Mills.

Mrs Allen Passes At West's Mill

Mrs Nannie Leatherman Allen, 71, died at the home of her son, Thomas Allen at West's Mill, Saturday, following an illness of three months.

Funeral services were held at the Snow Hill Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, the Rev George A Cloer officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

She was a life-long resident of Macon county and was married to John Allen, who died a number of years ago. She was a member of the Liberty Baptist church.

Surviving are two sons, Frank, of Franklin, Route 3, and Scott of Green's Creek; and four daughters, Mrs Gladys Jennings of Savannah, Ga; Mrs Laura Painter of Franklin, Route 3; Mrs Marie Painter and Mrs Shepherd of Gastonia; two step-sons, Dewitt Allen of Franklin, Route 3, and Willie Allen of West's Mill; one step-daughter, Mrs Ollie Jennings of Otto; three sisters, Mrs Sarah Ammons of Sylva, Mrs Roland R Rickman of West's Mill and Mrs Margaret Ann Ammons of Ellijay; two brothers, Dock Leatherman of Leatherman, and Soloman Leatherman of West's Mill, 26 grandchildren, step-grandchildren.

Mrs Carden Rites Held Saturday

Funeral services for Mrs Nancy "Aunt Nancy" Carden, who died Tuesday of last week at the age of 90 at her home in the Liberty section were conducted Saturday at 10 am at the Liberty Baptist Church.

Officiating were the Rev Judd Duvall, pastor, the Rev George A Cloer, and the Rev Norman E Holden. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Born April 21, 1864, and the lone survivor of 14 children, "Aunt Nancy" was the daughter of John and Mrs Mattie Carroll Gibson. She was a member of the Liberty church and was married December 25, 1881 to John B Carden, who died in 1915.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Elsie Hurst, of the Liberty community; two sons, Floyd C and Arthur Carden, of Sylva; nine grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Irdell Hurst, Asbury Carden, Floyd Carden, Jr, and Albert Carden, all grandsons, and Pratt Dalton, Coy Franklin, and Jack Hinson, all grandsons-in-law.

J C Gibson Dies Sunday in Hospital

Maconian's Rites Held at Carson Chapel Church

Jay C Gibson, 72-year-old farmer of Franklin, Route 1, and a native of Macon County, died February 2 at Angel Hospital, following an illness of two weeks.

Funeral services were conducted the 3rd at the Carson Chapel Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Officiating were the Rev S B Moss, pastor, and the Rev R L Poindexter. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Son of the late John and Mrs Sarah Raby Gibson, he was born May 5, 1885. He was married Nov 28, 1908 to Miss Cora Jacobs, who survives.

Other survivors include a son, J D Gibson, of Franklin, Route 1; a daughter, Mrs Zeb Childers, of Route 1; a brother, John Gibson, of Route 1; six sisters, Miss Grace Gibson, Miss Ruby Gibson, and Mrs Lawrence Setser, all of Route 1, Mrs Lon Campbell, of Franklin, and Mrs Henry Waldroop and Mrs Robert Dehart, of Bryson City; and five grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were W L Setser, John Setser, J C Jacobs, Radford Jacobs, George Gibson, and Dan Reynolds.

Arrangements were under the direction of Potts Funeral Home.

Weaver Gibson, Ruby Mine Owner, Dies in Hospital.

John Weaver Gibson, farmer and owner of a ruby mine in Cowee Valley, died Monday at 5:15 am in a local hospital following a heart attack.

Seventy years old, he had been in ill health fo the past year. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, AF and AM, No 145.

Funeral services for Mr Gibson were conducted Tuesday at the Snow Hill Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Officiating were the Rev Paul L Heaffner and the Rev C C Welch. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Born July 16, 1887, he was the son of Joseph Carroll and Mrs Alva Allen Gibson. He was married to the former Miss Frances Parrish, of this county, who died March 27, 1955.

Surviving are two brothers, Walter and Carroll Gibson, both of Franklin, Route 4; five sisters, Mrs John Dalton, Mrs James B Holbrooks, and Mrs Robert Bryson, all of Route 4, Mrs Mammie Reynolds, of Route 1, and Mrs Frank I Murray, of Franklin.

Nephews serving as pallbearers were Joel Dalton, Weaver Holbrooks, Dan Reynolds, Sam Gibson, Joe Gibson, and J D Parrish.

Bryant Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs Ila Gibson Bryson, 79, of the Cowee Community, died in a local hospital Sunday following an illness of two years.

Mrs Gibson (sic) was the daughter of J C and Alva Allen Gibson and was married to Robert Bryson who died in 1957.

Mrs Gibson (sic)was an active community worker. She was a charter member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Snow Hill United Methodist Church and of the Cowee Home Demonstration Club.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 am at the Snow Hill Methodist Church with the Rev Lee Dunlap, pastor, Rev C C Welch, and Rev J W Myers having part in the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers are John Gibson Murray, George, Jerry and Sam Gibson, Jr, Dan and Carroll Reynolds, Paul Holbrooks, and Lon Dalton.

Mrs Bryson is survived by two daughters, Mrs Charley Bradley, of Franklin, and Mrs R L McGaha, of Route 4; three step sons, Terrell Bryson, of Franklin, Ralph Bryson, of Warren, Mich, and Dover Bryson, of Port Huron, Mich; one brother, Carroll Gibson, of Route 4; and two sisters, Mrs Nobia Murray, of Franklin, and Mrs Pearl Holbrooks, also of Franklin.

Neal-Potts Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Alvia Gibson, 12 year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Gibson, of the Iotla section, died last Sunday morning at 8 o'clock at the Lyle hospital after an illness of one week.

The funeral services were conducted at the Iotla Baptist church Monday at 10 o'clock, by the Rev A S Solesbee, of Iotla, the Rev D C McCoy, of Etna, and the Rev J A Flanagan, pastor of the Franklin Presbyterian church.

The pallbearers were: Crawford Dalton, Joel Dalton, Rogers Dalton, Lyman Dalton, Frank Reynolds and Vance Holbrooks.

Alvia was a leader in her Sunbeam band and showed a radiant light and happiness to all whom she came in contact with. She scattered love and joy along her pathway. She was the pride and joy of her parents, brothers and sisters, teachers and schoolmates.

Alvia will be missed at home and in the community. Her life was a beautiful example for her many friends to follow.

She leaves a father and mother, three brothers, Frank, George and Paul and two sisters, Mrs Claude Roper and Lyda Gibson.

Alex Holbrooks, a former resident of Macon county, died suddenly at his home on Candler Monday.

Mr Holbrooks and family left Macon county about 25 years ago. He lived at Harmony in the upper section of Cowee township. He was a well known and a highly respected citizen. He would have been 98 years old had he lived until August 14.

He leaves two sons and one daughter in Macon county, Will and Jim Holbrooks, and Mrs Will Houston, at West's Mill; Larkin and Frank Holbrooks of Candler, Mrs Fannie Henry, of Candler, and another daughter in Alexander.

Final rites for Mrs John Mallonee, 56, of Almond, who died Saturday in an Asheville hospital, were held at the Snow Hill Methodist church at West's Mill, her former home, Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev H C Freeman, pastor, had charge of the services.

Mrs Mallonee underwent an operation last Friday from which she failed to rally. A blood transfusion was resorted to in an effort to save her life. She died several hours after the transfusion.

The deceased had been a member of the Ma? Springs Methodist church for the past 35 years.

Pallbearers were: E R Jones, J D Howell, J C Bennett and the Rev J H Stanberry, sons-in-law of Mrs Mallonee, J L Colville and J T Glenn.

Mrs Mallonee, who was formerly Miss Minnie Allen, of Cowee section, is survived by her husband, four daughters, Mrs J H Stanberry, Mrs J D Howell, Mrs E R Jones, and Mrs J C Bennett, all of Asheville; two sons, D W Mallonee, of San Francisco, Calif, and G H Mallonee, of Seattle, Wash., three grandchildren, J D Mallonee, Jr, Elizabeth Howell, and Alma Stanberry; one brother, Mr Scott Allen of Leatherman, and one sister, Mrs W J Jenkins of West's Mill.

Abe Issac Rickman died on March 25. He was 85 years old.
Rickman was the son of Thomas and Lucy (Kennedy) Rickman. He was born on July 19, 1920, in Held. He ranched with his father, Tom, and brother, Ray, on Bear Creek until 1956.
On June 10, 1951, Rickman married JoAnn Obernolte in Bend. In 1956, the couple bought a ranch in Izee, where they lived until 1990, then moved to the G.I. ranch and continued to ranch.
In 1995, they moved to Burns. Rickman continued to ranch and was very active until he passed away.
He enjoyed hunting, raising quarter horses and cattle ranching. He was a member of the Elks Lodge
Rickman is survived by his sons, Claude and wife Christine Rickman of Powell Butte, Bruce and wife Wendy Rickman of Burns, and Steve and his Kristy Rickman of Burns. He is also survived by sisters, Betty Jo Norton of Mitchell, Luceill Cherry of Prineville, and Joyce Ferrarin of Terrebonne; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rickman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, JoAnn, one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services were held at LaFollette's Chapel on Thursday, March 30. Graveside services were held on Friday, March 31, at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville. Arrangements were in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to S.O.D.A. of Harney County.

Leora Lulah Houston Egger, a Prineville resident, passed away at her home on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006.
She was 70 years old.
Visitation and viewing will be held Thursday, April 20, from 4-8 p.m. at Prineville Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 21, at 2 p.m. at Prineville First Baptist Church. Dr. Barry Gridley and Reverend Luke Hendrix will officiate.
Committal will follow at Juniper Haven Cemetery.
Leora was born on July 18, 1935 in Prineville to Fred T. and Blanche Lenora (Gibson) Houston, Sr. Her grandparents, Tom and Sallie Houston, were a pioneer family in Crook County, Oregon.
Leora lived part of her youth at a ranger station, along with several other ranger stations. She graduated from Crook County High School in 1953.
During summers and after high school she worked on a lookout. She married Bruce Egger on October 8, 1955, at the First Baptist Church in Prineville and then lived at the Rager Ranger Station on the Paulina Ranger District.
They moved to Bly, Ore., in 1960, where Mr. Egger was the Forest Service ranger and Mrs. Egger taught Sunday school and preschool and worked as a substitute school teacher. In 1968 they moved to Pomeroy, Wash.
Mrs. Egger graduated from Lewis and Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, in 1975 and taught elementary school in Pomeroy from 1975 to 1980. The couple moved to Prineville in 1980 and Mrs. Egger taught at Powell Butte Elementary School. She then taught at Ochoco Elementary School from 1981 until she retired in 1994.
She was a member of the Prineville First Baptist Church and a member of the Crook County Historical Society. She taught Sunday school and children's church and enjoyed historical research, writing, singing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Leora is survived by: her husband, Bruce Egger; son Kelvin Egger of Clarkston, Washington; three daughters, Kathy and her husband Ken Fink, Leslie and her husband Peter Gould, all of Portland, Ore., Laurie and her husband Brian Snyder of Middleton, Idaho; brothers Fred T. Houston, Jr. of Prineville; five sisters, Sallie Beth Fisher of Pasco, Washington, Leonore Lynner of Bend, Marci McMillin of Chiloquin, Kay Stone of Monmouth and Ellen Doty of Klamath Falls; nine grandchildren; special cousin Marva Walker of Monument, Ore.; brother-in- law and sister-in-law Art and Bonnie Egbert of Grangeville, Idaho and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary Etta Houston and Eudora Sprague.

Rhoda S. Price of Redmond died Monday. She was 86.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Terrebonne Pioneer Cemetery.
Mrs. Price was born Dec. 30, 1919, in Ellijay, N.C., to James and Peggy (Gregory) Ammons. She married Fred Price on Jan. 25, 1937, in Speedwell, N.C.
Mrs. Price worked as a caregiver in the residential home at the Opportunity Center in Redmond for many years. She was one of the founders of the Smith Rock Community Church in Terrebonne. She enjoyed gardening and camping.
Survivors include a daughter, Bertha Mack of Redmond; a brother, Fred Ammons of Traveler's Rest, S.C.; three sisters, Lelia Adams of Franklin, N.C., Myrtle Frisbee of Sedro Wooley, Wash., and Cora Hollard of Franklin, N.C.; four grandchildren whom she raised, Pam Gilbert and Dennis Urell, both of Redmond, and Randy Nielsen and Rick Urell, both of Bend; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Autumn Funerals of Redmond is in charge of arrangements.
