Memory Lane
Several years after the purchase or the Pendergrass Store building and opening of the Macon County Historical Museum, the Historical Society purchased the area just to the east of the building which was an alleyway between the Store building and the business next door. This area was originally a part of the Pendergrass property. Memory Lane was created in this area. |

Memory Lane
Memory Lane consists of a garden walkway of engraved bricks which are purchased by individuals, families, and/or businesses. The bricks are engraved with the name of the individual, family, or business, and are professionally laid into the walkway by a local brick mason artisan. The garden features native plants and flowers, each with its own season of glory. The garden walkway is complete with garden benches where one may pause, enjoy the quiet beauty away from the busy street, and perhaps reflect on memories of Macon's past. |

Bricks may be purchased and engraved in honor or memory of an individual loved one or ones, a family, a business, a company, organization, or event. Much of Macon County history, is represented in this walkway. What better way to honor the living or the memory of deceased loved ones than with a memorial brick that will preserve a place in Macon's history for time immemorial? A record book of all bricks including a one-page history of the honoree or event named on the brick is maintained in the Historical Museum Reference Library. |
Engraved bricks make a unique and lasting gift for any occasion. What a wonderful gift for that person who has everything and is so hard to buy for! And what a meaningful way to honor any Macon family! Many families choose to present the option at gatherings such as reunions, and allow all who wish to do so to contribute toward the purchase of the brick. Why not include your family in this representation of Macon's history? |
The proceeds from this project are used toward retirement of the debt on the Memory Lane property, after which they will be used toward maintenance of the garden walkway and restoration of the top floor of the Pendergrass Store building. |
The cost of an engraved brick with one, two, or three lines of engraving is $75.00. The bricks are red with black engraving and up to 20 characters per line. We suggest including dates if possible, especially birth and death years of individuals and establishment dates of businesses or organizations. You will receive a certificate and a map showing the exact location of your brick in Memory Lane, and new bricks in Memory Lane will be listed at least once per year in the Society's newsletter. |
